A St. Thomas Aquinas student is gearing up to represent the region at OFSAA.

Colby Wallace has qualified for the OFSAA cross-country championships in Uxbridge on November 5. It’s the first time in over a decade that a cross-country runner from TA is headed to OFSAA.

In Court Sports, the Saints hosted the Red Lake Rams in Basketball and Volleyball action.

The two schools split the day with Red Lake winning in Junior Boys’ Volleyball and Junior Girls’ Basketball, but the Saints’ senior teams took their games.

Next league play will be on November 2 against Atikokan.

The top two teams in the CFL meet in a season-ending clash in Winnipeg tonight. The 14-and-3 Blue Bombers host the 12-and-5 BC Lions.

The Bombers long ago wrapped first place in the West Division. The Lions, meanwhile, have clinched second place and will host the Calgary Stampeders in next week's division semifinals.

Two Canadian teams are in action tonight in the NHL.

The Winnipeg Jets visit the Arizona Coyotes. The game will be played in the Coyotes' new 5,000-seat arena on the Arizona State University campus in Tempe. The team will play there for the next three seasons as the franchise continues working on a proposed long-term arena.

Elsewhere tonight, the Vancouver Canucks try for their second win of the season as they host the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers square up again at Scotiabank Arena tonight. Toronto topped the visiting Sixers 119-109 on Wednesday.

Philadelphia has lost four of its first five games this season and is allowing an average of 111 points per game. The Raptors enter the game with a 3-and-2 record.

Game 1 of the World Series is tonight in Houston as the favoured Astros host the National League champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson is the first Canadian-born manager to take a team to the World Series. The Sarnia, Ontario native took over as manager of a losing team on June 3 and helped the Phillies turn their season around.
