Portage la Prairie’s City Council for 2022-2026 was officially sworn in on November 2nd.
Mayor Sharilyn Knox caught up with PortageOnline and says it’s been a whirlwind throughout the past couple of days, but she’s ready to get to work for the city. She shares a message for the Portagers that have supported her so far.
“I'm humbled by their confidence in voting me in as their mayor,” explains Knox. “I just will say that I will work as hard as I can to help hold up my end of the bargain. I plan to work hard and do good things for the city.”
Along with Knox, the members of the City Council were also sworn in. The committee chairs were chosen as well. The heads of each committee include:
Finance and Legislative Property - Joe Masi
City Planning and Economic Development - Preston Meier
Community Services - Ryan Espey
Waterworks - Faron Nicholls
Transportation - Terrie Porter
Public Safety - Colin Doyle
Knox explains that now-former mayor Irvine Ferris has given her advice since she was elected.
“Ferris is not only a colleague, but he's a friend,” says Knox. “I know that I will always have him as a confidant looking for advice. I have big shoes to fill and I know that he’ll help me along the way.”
The newly appointed council will meet on Monday, November 14th.
