The 2022 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship gets underway in Prince Albert this weekend, and for third time in eight years, a team from the Swift Current Curling Club will be wearing Saskatchewan's colours.
Skip Shaun Meachem, joined by Kelly Schafer and Chris & Teejay Haichert, claimed the provincial mixed team Championship in March on home ice to earn a spot at the national championship. The team also won the 2019 provincial mixed championship and finished fifth in their pool in the 2020 Canadian Mixed Championship.
Saskatchewan is looking for its first title since 2014, when Swift Current's Max Kirkpatrick took it home with his team of Jolene Campbell and Chris & Teejay Haichert. That team made the quarterfinals of the world mixed championship in 2015.
Meachem will open this year's championship against the Morgan Muise rink from Alberta on Sunday afternoon. Round-robin play continues through Friday with the playoffs and championship game on Saturday. This year's winning team will represent Canada at the 2023 World Mixed Curling Championship at a location yet to be determined.
Next year's Canadian Mixed Curling Championship will take place in Swift Current on November 5-11, 2023.
