Isabelle Margaret Wishart

Peacefully, on November 6th, 2022, Isabelle Wishart passed away with a beloved niece by her side. Born October 12, 1923, she had recently celebrated her 99th birthday with family.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Shirley (Lester) Case, niece Sandra, great-niece Amanda (Kevin) and their children Simon, Sophie and Audrey, niece Shelley (Larry), great-nephew Scott (Kimberly) and their children Everett, Reese, and Gavin, great-nephew Cameron (Roxanne) and their children Madelyn and Hailey, great-niece Kelsey (Matthew) and their children Dean and Grant, nephew Brian (Patti), great-niece Kayla (Brian) and their son Felix and great-nephew Kyle (Blessing), as well as many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her much-loved brother Melville, parents Hector and Agnes Wishart and niece Catherine Case. Born on the family farm in the RM of Portage la Prairie, she spent her youth growing up on the farm, helping with the horses, caring for the officers and their families billeted at their home during WWII. Her first and only job was with Investors Syndicate (now Investors Group). When she was hired, the company had three employees and two typewriters! Her job was her life. This turned into an illustrious 42-year career that started in Winnipeg, then led to Brandon and finally Hamilton, Ontario., where she became regional secretary. After her retirement she returned to live in Portage to be closer to family.

Isabelle loved to travel, play the slots, visit with family and take drives out to look at the crops, visit Delta or Riding Mountain or Gimli. Always ready for an adventure she travelled to Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Los Vegas, Australia, New Zealand, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, the USA and most of Canada. She was also an avid knitter that shared this love with her great-nieces. We all have “Auntie Belle” socks to keep our feet warm and she donated hundreds of pairs of mitts and socks to families or children in need. Thank you to the staff at the Lions Prairie Manor for taking such excellent care of Isabelle while she resided there and making her so comfortable.

A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery at a later date. A slideshow tribute will be added to her obituary page once available.

Expressions of sympathy are so heartfelt and appreciated, but the family requests to please not send any cards or flowers. Rather, if family or friends so wish, donations may be made in Isabelle’s memory to the Lions Prairie Manor, 24 - 9th Street S.E., Portage la Prairie, R1N 3V4 or a charity of your choice.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
