An 18-year-old has been charged in relation to a violent sexual assault at a city bus stop last week and police say he was already wanted for a string of violent assaults at other bus stops.

A woman in her 20s was sexually and physically assaulted in the early morning hours of November 5, while waiting for a bus at the Chancellor/Pembina Rapid Transitway. An arriving Transit bus scared off the male, and he fled on foot with the victim’s property.

The Winnipeg Police Service says that the Sex Crimes Unit took over the investigation and identified Jayden Isreal Kennedy as a suspect.

The Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of front-line members, was already searching for Kennedy on two unrelated matters. He was wanted for two serious assaults at knifepoint on November 2 and 4 at a bus stop at Keewatin/Burrows.

On November 8, officers from the North District Community Support Unit arrested Kennedy at a residence in the first 100 block of Foxberry Bay. He was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit and processed on the strength of his outstanding warrants.

The Sex Crimes Unit subsequently charged KENNEDY with the following additional offences:

- Sexual Assault with a Weapon
- Aggravated Assault
- Robbery
- Uttering Threats
- Possession of a Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x 3

He was detained in custody.
