Forward Danika Botterill of Portage la Prairie has been named to Team Manitoba’s female U-18 hockey roster. The female hockey competition will be held from February 26th-March 5th in PEI. Defenseman Reece Gault and forward Owen Martin of Oakbank were named to the male U-16 hockey roster for the same event in Fredericton.

The Steinbach Pistons have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. Austin Peters scored the go-ahead goal with 11 seconds left in the second period as the Portage Terriers edged the Pistons 2-1 at the T.G. Smith Centre. St. Pierre’s Jayden Catellier made 38 saves in net for the Terriers. Austin Peters scored the game-winner with 11 seconds left in the 2nd period, his 9th of the year. Ryan Botterill had the other Terrier goal.

In other MJHL games, Ty Kennett had two goals and an assist as Niverville downed the Winnipeg Blues 7-5. The Nighthawks have won two in a row since ending their three-game losing skid. The Winkler Flyers shut out the Winnipeg Freeze 8-0.

Maisie Breckon scored twice and Ginger Fast had two assists as the Eastman Selects defeated the Interlake Lightning 5-1. Ava Boily, Danyel Heppner and Mackenzie Waddell also scored for the Selects who received a 32-save performance from Orieanna Kennedy. The Southwest Cougars dropped a 6-5 decision to the Winnipeg Thrashers. Dawson Andries and Nicholas Cullen had two goals each for the Cougars. Sebastian Stone had the other Southwest goal. Ekam Dhaliwal scored the only goal of the game as the Brandon Wheat Kings blanked the defending Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champion Winnipeg Wild 1-0. KC Couckuyt made 23 saves for the first-place Wheat Kings who have reeled off 14 straight wins to start the season.


Justin Tremblay had a goal and an assist and Mason Swerdyliak made 39 saves as the Ile des Chenes Northstars blanked the Winkler Royals 4-0 in the SEMHL. Matthew Osadick, Riley Beauchemin and Tyler Swerdyliak also scored for the Northstars. Portage hosts Carman tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Brett Hyland, Nolan Ritchie and Jake Chiasson all scored in the shootout as the Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up their four-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. Nate Danielson and Andrei Malyavin scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings who begin a five-game road trip Saturday when they meet the Western Hockey League’s East Division leading Ice in Winnipeg.

In the Tiger Hills Hockey League tonight, MacGregor hosts Hartney at 7 p.m. and Gladstone welcomes Minnedosa at 8.
