Lambert Frank Graf
December 9, 1934 - November 22, 2022
Lambert was born on December 9, 1934, in the Fulda District, Saskatchewan. The oldest child of Michael and Anna (née Hartl) Graf, he attended Gertrude School until Grade 8 and then farmed with his dad. For a couple of winters, Lambert worked in a bush camp in northern Manitoba. Other winters were spent doing construction in Saskatoon, SK and running a caterpillar clearing land. On October 13, 1958, he married Clara Ilg. They became farming partners and raised two daughters, Dianne and Laurie. He loved the farm, but the most important thing to him was family. Lambert always enjoyed sports and never missed his girls’ curling or fastball games. In later years, he attended many of the sports his grandchildren participated in as well. Always a loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Lambert often got teased about their success. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and snowmobiling. Lambert, Clara, and the girls went on many summer vacations visiting the US, Alberta, and BC. Lambert and Clara also enjoyed going to dances with their friends. In 1991, Lambert and Clara retired to Bruno, SK. There they made many new friends, had fun singing with the Bruno Melodears, and spent many happy hours in their huge garden. After retirement, Lambert began helping Philip and Dianne on their farm. He devoted many hours driving the combine and always enjoyed the huge lunch Clara packed for him in his old, black lunch kit (often sharing his homemade cookies with a grandchild riding along with him). He combined until the age of 82 helping Philip and later his grandson Chris. A highlight for Lambert and Clara was a vacation they took to Europe to visit Laurie and Manfred who were living there at the time. He met several of his German relatives, which was very special to him. Lambert was a storyteller, and his family will cherish the many stories he told (sometimes more than once ) throughout the years. In 2015, Lambert and Clara moved to the Village Green Condos in Humboldt, SK. In June 2022, they moved to Caleb Village, where they resided together until the present. Lambert is survived by Clara, his wife of 64 years; daughter Dianne (Philip) Lepage and family: Christopher (Andria) Lepage and children Kolby, Carter, and Austin, Kimberly (Kyle) Buckle and children Payton, Cooper, Kyla, and Gabrielle, and Daryl (Chelsey) Lepage and children Shelby, Nixon, and Grayson; daughter Laurie (Manfred) Gerber and family: Micheal (Olivia) and Nicole; sister Frances (Arnold) Bernauer; sisters-in-law Christine (Roman) Frank and Sally Aschenbrenner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Anna (née Hartl) Graf; parents-in-law Louis and Rose (née Winkel) Ilg; and brother-in-law Arnold Aschenbrenner. On Friday, December 2, 2022, the Funeral Mass was offered for Lambert at 2:00 p.m., at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, in Humboldt, SK, celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were Christopher Lepage, cross bearer; Nicole Gerber and Kimberly Buckle, scripture readers; Andria Lepage and Daryl Lepage, prayers of the faithful; Micheal Gerber and Kyle Buckle, gift bearers; Philip Lepage and Manfred Gerber, urn bearers; and Alma Hoppe and Annella Krentz, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was led by the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery with “All those who shared in Lambert’s life,” noted as honorary pallbearers, and the memorial luncheon held afterwards in the St. Augustine Parish Hall.
