It's being described as a welcome gift that will help support programming at Altona's newest community resource organization.

Members of the Legends Car Club board have donated $1,000 to The Community Exchange. The proceeds generated through the car club's 2022 annual Charity Drag Races.

The Community Exchange is a new initiative in Altona that serves as a hub to connect people to a network of community events and services to support living and thriving in Altona and surrounding areas.

Some initiatives that are already happening at The Community Exchange include the Altona Community Meal, which is a free meal offered once a month, Muffin Mondays which is a weekly breakfast drop in and Sharing the Warmth which distributes winter clothing in our community.

The Community Exchange is also excited to be hosting programming through partnerships with local support agencies such as Regional Connections, Border Land School Division, Pembina Valley Pride, CommUNITY support teams, Healthy Baby programming and Altona and Area Family Resource Centre.

In addition to the $1,000 given to The Community Exchange, the Legends Car Club also gave $2,000 to both the Empty Stocking Fund and the Rhineland and Area Food Bank.

"At the end of the year after all was said and done, we had additional funds we could distribute," said Legends President Alex Loewen. "At a membership meeting we threw around some ideas for organizations in the local community, and the three that were top of mind were the newly founded Community Exchange, the Altona and Rhineland Food Bank, and the Empty Stocking Fund."
