Joanne Assin
October 14, 1977 – November 21, 2022

Joanne, a resident of Grassy Narrows First Narrows passed away suddenly on Monday, November 21, 2022

She is survived by her husband Dallas Swain, children Denzil, Julieann, Anton and Americo, her step-children, Sabrina and Devin, her grandchildren Gaagii, Diondre, Mikylo and Lanaya whom she cherished and loved with all her heart.

She will also be greatly missed by her sisters, Linda, Myra, Kristy, Chasity, first cousins Susan, Rhonda, Adeline, Jean, Bruce, Donovan, uncles Ira (wife) and kids Irwin Loon & kids, Roy Assin & kids, nieces and nephews Nicole & kids, Griffen & son, Clyde, Niel, Hudson, Linda, River, Akellies, Roxanne (sister) & kids Valentina & kids, Edward & son Shawn & kids, James & Kids, Brittany & kids, Tarra & kids, Shelly & kids Matilda, Albert, Cliff & kids, Stephana, Sadie, cousins, Ginny Loon & kids, Joann Ackabee & kids, Fred Assin & kids her cousin and best friend growing up Christa Ackabee, Virginia Pelly, numerous cousins and family from the Assin, Loon and Necanapenace families. 

She was predeceased by her biological parent Joyce Assin, adopted parents Henry Blackhead, Matilda Necanapenace, grandparents, John Assin, Daisy Assin, uncles and aunties, Linda Assin, Irene Keesick, niece Diane Necanapenace, Don Necanapenace, uncles Don Necanapenace Sr. and Steven Speirs.

She loved hanging out with her family out on the land cooking and grabbing fire wood, Hiking, walking, fishing, blueberry picking, traveling locally, playing bingo, loved watching live bands play. She loved hanging with friends, family and her grandchildren.  She loved her job where she worked for 23 years. She will missed from her co-workers Kathleen, Wendy, Aaron, Wayne, her co-workers from Whnhac, Health Canada, as well as the community members who cherished her, especially her elders.

Wake service will begin on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Trappers Building in Grassy Narrows.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Trappers Building in Grassy Narrows with burial to follow in Grassy Narrows.
