On December 2, 2022 at the age of 71, Yayanotook, Lorraine Rose Powassin of the Eagle Clan, or Doak, mother, mamanon, sister, aunt, friend, colleague and Bannock maker, passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Doak was born to Frank and Louise Powassin on March 16, 1951.
Lorraine grew up on Windigo Island and moved to Kenora as a young adult, where she worked and met Steve Skead, together they raised four little brats. Lorraine’s passion was her family, and not only did she help raise her grandchildren, she had her hand in raising her nieces, nephews and friends that her children brought over. She always made sure to have her cupboards and fridge stocked and would feed anyone that came over. She moved back to Windigo Island in 2001 with her ten-year-old granddaughter, Alee, and remained there until her passing. She was very independent and active her whole life and could still outrun her daughter and most of her nieces. She also loved to bingo and the casino.
Lorraine was so deeply loved, by so many, and leaves in mourning, her baby daddy Steve Skead, sons Stephen, Ferguson, Jonathon (Miranda), daughter Phoebe, grandchildren Delaney, Datrene, Destiny, Phoebe Jr., KayDance (Kai), Naomi, Ferg Jr., Marcus, Elijah, Neil, great grandchildren Jackson, Hayden, Mika, Ivy and Zane, brother Harvey, nieces Maureen, Shona, Roxanne, Leigh-Anne, Vanessa, Jessica and Brittany, nephews Franklin, Todd, Norbert, Curtis, Dakota, Luke and many more.
She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Louise Powassin, brothers Joe and Alec, sisters Jane, Norma, Patsy and Dorothy, grandchildren Alexandra, Kyle, Brayden and Harmony, as well as great grandchild Melody.
Mom, thank you for everything, we will miss you.

The wake for Lorraine will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 starting at 3:00 pm and the service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the Golden Eagle Bingo Hall.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Powassin, Kai Fair, Ferguson Ogden, Frank Powassin, Timothy McLeod and Jeremiah McDonald. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Skead, Stephen Powassin, Ferguson Powassin, Jonathon Powassin, Wade Skead, Kevin Major, Todd Powassin and Norbert Powassin.
