Ron Roy McDonald

August 16, 1957 – December 7, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ron Roy McDonald of One Man Lake First Nation (Wabaseemoong) at 65 years of age. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and a good friend to many.
Ron leaves to mourn his loving wife of 50 years, Lynda McDonald (nee Pahpasay) and his two sons, Jeremy and Lyle (Savannah). His greatest joys were his grandchildren Cheyenne, Sage (Karlee), Kayden, Redhawk (Hannah), Ryver, Raven, Rayanne (Corbin), Ethan, Jerica, Raya, Jerden, Jerlyn, and Sasha. His most precious great-grandchildren Cairus, Galaxy, Waabigwan, Oaklyn, Oren, Waaseyaakwe, Kailyn and baby Richard. His sisters Myrna, Elsie, Marilyn, Marlene, Patricia and Mary. His best friends Leonard Fisher, Perry Kejick, Reggie Paishk, Peter Luce, Jim Kakagamic and many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Ron is predeceased and welcomed with love by his parents Roy McDonald and Edna Martin. His first born son, Richard Lee McDonald. His grandson Raymond Joshua (R.J.) Wesley. His brothers John McDonald and Eddie (Mac) McDonald, and sister Elva McDonald. His niece Jayelle Napish-Yik and many friends too many to mention.
Ron loved to play hockey and he played until he couldn’t no more, he also loved music and played guitar very well. He loved participating in and watching sports, fishing, and being surrounded by nature. He was very adventurous and loved to travel when he could. He was the greatest fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and loved watching their every game during the hockey season. He believed in the power of having and achieving a good education. He obtained his teaching degree, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. He was a teacher and principal for 43 years until his passing, he encouraged the youth in the community to continue to further their education and strive for the best they could be in their educational quests. He loved serving his community during his time of leadership, and providing guidance to those in the position after him. He believed in the traditional teachings and culture of our Anishinaabe people.
The wake will commence on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 12:00 p.m at the Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School gymnasium. A traditional funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow.
His family would like to extend our utmost sincerest gratitude to those who were a part of Ron’s life. Your love and friendship will always be greatly appreciated. Thank you also to the hospital staff at the LWDH, TBRSC and Home Dialysis Unit in Thunder Bay during his time of need.
Pallbearers will be James Kakegamic, Sage McDonald, Redhawk Ogemah, Ryver McDonald, Reggie Paishk and Perry Kejick. Honorary pallbearer Leonard Fisher. We thank everyone that loved Ron and Thank you to all the organizations that have supported his journey, WCWA, Wabaseemoong First Nation Chief and Council and the Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School.
