It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ina Evelyn Wickett (Walker). Ina passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family in Kenora, Ontario on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022 at the age of 94.
Ina was predeceased by her husband, Wyman Wickett, her parents, Harold Walker and Edna Walker (nee Mills), her sister Gwen (Howard) Foley, her brothers Ivan Walker, Harold (Jean and Pierrette) Walker and Rod Walker and her husband Wyman Wickett.
She is survived by her brother Wes Walker (Rose), sister-in-law Elaine Walker, sister-in-law Betty Walker, her three children, Cyndy Beernaert (Dennis), Kim Wickett Momotiuk, and Vicky Ranger (Grant), her eight grandchildren Andrew Beernaert, Jamie Beernaert, Kris Momotiuk, Kassie Momotiuk, Malcolm Momotiuk, Chelsea Ranger (Paulo), Jackie van Logtenstein (Mike), Victoria Wall (Jonathan) and her eight great grandchildren.
Ina was born to Harold and Edna Walker (Mills) in New Liskeard, Ontario. She always enjoyed telling stories of her time growing up on the farm with her family and the horses.
Ina married Wyman Wicket November 10, 1950 and they started their family in Kirkland Lake, Ontario moving several times over the years with Wyman’s job before finally settling in Kenora, Ontario. Over the years, the family enjoyed skiing and camping.
Education was very important to Ina. She often spoke fondly of her time at Alma College where she participated in basketball and choir. Later she returned to school to complete her grade 13 and then teacher’s college at Lakehead University, even while her own children were in school. Ina went on to teach and do secretarial work in Thunder Bay, Brampton and Kenora until she retired.
In 1972, Ina and the family moved to Kenora, Ontario where she spent the rest of her life devoted to her family, painting and her faith.
After Ina’s retirement she continued her education in the arts attending different art classes including some at the Ontario College of the arts summer program and with one her favorite teachers, Voita. Ina became a well-known watercolor artist in the Kenora area over the years. If she wasn’t painting or cooking her famous apple pies, buns and biscuits she was hosting or attending church activities. Ina was a devoted Christian, actively involved in church activities including traveling to attend conferences with her prayer groups.
A Celebration of Ina’s life will be held on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in Kenora, Ontario at 4:00pm.
