The Portage la Prairie School Division held its last board meeting of 2022 on Tuesday night. The meeting went over a variety of topics, including:
- Multiple out-of-province field trips extending until 2027 being approved
- Passing a motion to approve the budget for a new play structure at Ecole Arthur Meighen School
- Winter Concerts which have occurred or are still to take place
- Winter Break being right around the corner
- A stern warning to students from Superintendent Todd Cuddington regarding cell phone use in class
After the meeting concluded, Blair Hordeski - Career Development Coordinator, presented a lengthy but worthwhile slideshow about his work, which gives tremendous opportunity to Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) students through multiple career-focused programs.
Hordeski spoke about the presentation and how it celebrates students who put themselves out there.
"It's a chance to really show appreciation to our employers who are essential for career development. For our school division, all of the programs that we're trying to run with just can't happen without the support of local employers," says Hordeski. "Tonight was a good opportunity to just show the board that we have some great students in our community."
Hordeski adds that one thing he has been striving for is creating a career culture at PCI.
"It's just about exploring and finding out what is out there," notes the Career Development Coordinator.
PortageOnline will showcase a few students making the most of these opportunities in the coming days.
The next board meeting is slated for January 10th.
