It was a back-and-forth weekend for the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Sioux Lookout Bombers. Dryden took Friday’s game 3-0, but the Bombers bounced back to win Saturday’s game 2-1 at home.
The SIJHL’s now on a break until 2023, with games scheduled for January 5 and 6.
The Kenora Thistles out-skated the Winnipeg Wild and Winnipeg Bruins this weekend, as they picked up two wins with 13 goals scored.
They took out the Wild 7-5 at home on Friday, before beating out the Bruins in Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon. Patrick Forsythe and James Sinclair got the wins in net.
The Thistles are 10-17-2 with 22 points this season and are gearing up to face the Thrashers in Winnipeg on Wednesday. It’ll be their last game before the Christmas break.
A couple of Canadian NHL teams want to end losing skids tonight. The Edmonton Oilers are in Nashville hoping to bounce back from back-to-back losses. Also, the Montreal Canadiens take their three-game losing skid to Arizona. The Vancouver Canucks are also at home to the St. Louis Blues, winners of three straight.
And Alex Ovechkin's pursuit of Gordie Howe for second in all-time goals continues tonight when the Washington Capitals host the Red Wings. Howe scored 786 of his 801 goals with Detroit. Ovechkin, with 800, needs just one goal to tie Howe, and 2 goals to move into second place.
