Roman William Stadnyk
May 20, 1929 – December 19, 2022

With family by his side, Roman Stadnyk passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on Monday, December 19, 2022, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Roman was born on May 20, 1929, to Wasyl and Anne (née Shule) Stadnyk on the farm in the Carmel District, SK. He was the youngest born into a family of nine; four girls and five boys. Roman attended Mount Carmel School. During his younger years, he enjoyed playing fastball. Roman married Frances Kuchapski on June 15, 1957. They lived on a farm near Bruno, SK, where they had six children: Shirley, Murray, Teresa, Darrell, Erdine, and Rodney. Roman was a hard worker and took his farming lifestyle very seriously. Together with Frances, they raised cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducks. Roman was a dedicated man of faith. For many years, he was an active member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church at Bruno Farms, serving alongside many priests and as Treasurer of the Church Board. Roman was a self-taught musician, playing violin and guitar. Other pastimes included dancing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. In 1994, Roman and Frances retired from farming and moved to Humboldt, SK. This change of pace was difficult for Roman, and he spent many days driving to the farm to help. As he adjusted to retirement, Roman developed an interest in supporting Frances with their large garden and yard; waking early to pick weeds, watering daily, and regular hedge trimming. In recent years, Roman enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs and cherished all family gatherings. Roman will be remembered for building a family farm and his dedication to serving the church and will be lovingly remembered by: daughter Shirley (Bill) Maskal, and children Reverend William (Sofiya), and Michael (Anna); son Murray (Colleen) Stadnyk, and children Shaun (Melissa), Justin (Taylor), Jenna (Todd), and Chantal (Keith); daughter Teresa (Gary) Florizone and children Rachele (Brad), Megan (Jessie), and Brandon; daughter-in-law Betty Stadnyk and children Dallas (Emilie), Dylan, Lance (Cierra), and Luke; Erdine (Don) Giesbrecht and children Cassidy and Adam; Rodney Stadnyk; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Frances Stadnyk (2016); son Darrell Stadnyk (2010); parents Wasyl and Anne (née Shule) Stadnyk; four sisters; and four brothers. Eternal Memory - Вічная Пам'ять. The Prayer Service was held for Roman at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Fr. Colin Roy and Rev. William Maskal.
