Dorothy Elizabeth Davis
August 30, 1936 – December 25, 2022

Dorothy was born on August 30, 1936, to Peter and Helen (nee Faranski) Rosen at home on the family farm near Gronlid, SK. She attended Freedom School until Grade 10 then, attended the convent in St. Louis for a short time before completing her Grade 12 in Melfort, SK. Dorothy went on to obtain her Teaching Certificate at the Teachers College in Saskatoon, SK. She accepted her first teaching job at the Jones School near Resource, SK. After teaching there for a couple of years, she needed a change and moved to Naicam, SK, to teach. While in Naicam Dorothy met Eric Davis in December 1958. They were married on August 13, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Church in Saskatoon. Dorothy taught in Naicam until 1961, at which time she became a full-time farm wife and mother, roles she was very proud to assume. Dorothy and Eric took over the Davis family farm in 1962, where they remained until August 2012 at which time they moved to Humboldt. They were very proud to have kept the family farm for over 100 years; 50 of those years where she and Eric raised their family and extended family. They spent countless hours entertaining family and friends and most importantly grandchildren. Dorothy was never afraid of the hard work of being a farm wife and could be guaranteed to find her everywhere from driving the grain truck, taking grain samples to the elevator, going for parts or just for a cold beverage run, along with running the household and garden. She was an accomplished seamstress, and an exceptional cook and gardener. Her yard and garden were her great joy and she often called it her "sanity patch". Dorothy was a natural teacher and loved to offer advice or an opinion, whether it was wanted it or not. She truly made an impact on many lives. Dorothy stayed involved in St. George's Church in Naicam for many years, teaching confirmation/first communion classes, serving communion, and sewing any items requested for church. Dorothy remained in their home in Humboldt after Eric's passing until May 2022. Due to declining health, she made several short moves to the Harry Ford Center, The Elizabeth and finally, Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, SK, where she passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, December 25, 2022. Dorothy said her mother told her she came into the world like a "whirlwind". She left this world the same way. As Eric often told her: "Where Dorothy goes ..trouble follows". Dorothy leaves to mourn her four children, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren: DEBBIE (Glenn) Tompolski and family, Tanya (Dale) and daughter Charlotte, Hannah (Ryan) and sons Levi, Jack, and Carrissa; MARK (fiancée Kathy) Davis and Emily; LORRAINE (Murray) Thiemann and family, Emma (Johnny) and son Simon, Nicole, and Sara (Nelson); and SCOTT (Sue) Davis and family, Samantha, Madisyn, and step-daughter Nicole Muyres. She is also survived by her brother, Joe Rosen; sisters, Cecile Sulewski, and Marcella (Ron) Brown; sisters-in-law, Anne Rosen, Peggy Rosen, and Marg Jones (Davis family); and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Eric Davis; parents, Peter and Helen (nee Faranski) Rosen; siblings: Ignace (Joan) Rosen, John Rosen, Alex Rosen, Pat (Edward) Miazga, Kay (Roy) Bergren, Stan Sulewski, and Josie Rosen; and by many in-laws of the Davis family. “We, the family of Dorothy Davis, wish to extend special thanks to the staff at Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, the staff at the Humboldt Health Complex including Home Care, the staff at The Elizabeth, Dr. Ockbazghi, as well as to all who lent support during this difficult time.” The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: James Davis, crossbearer; Hannah Miller and Joyce Claggett, scripture readers; Bernard and Elizabeth Miazga, intentions; Debbie Tompolski, Lorraine Thiemann and Scott Davis, giftbearers; Mitch Davis and Mike Davis, memorial table attendants; and Wayne Davis, urnbearer. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, pianist Erika Rybinski, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were Peter Brown, Byron Bergren, Jim Bergren, Bernard Miazga, Kent Rosen, and Joe Adams. A Private Interment will take place at Naicam Public Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, (PO Box 459, Watson, SK, S0K 4V0) or The Elizabeth (#45-1212 12th Street, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A1).
