It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Mandamin Jr., announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the age of 73.

Joe will be forever remembered by his children, Josephine Jack, (Jay) Cheyenne Carpenter, and step grandson Hewson Smith of Whitedog; grandchildren children, George (Cherilyn) and Regina Scott Zena and Jonah Cameron, Jaylynn, Jaycey, (Darcy) Jay Jr. (Shania) and Jayde Kent, T.J. Carpenter, great-grandchildren Joah, Darcey, Journey, Darcel, Ryland, Hayden, Madison, Jorge, Belle, Adam, Sabastian, Adrian, Marshall, Mia. And other great-great grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his sisters Kathy Prouty, Gladys Mandamin (Philip), brother Ronnie Mandamin Sr. and many nephews, nieces, extended family members and good friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his life partners, Jane Smith and Jessie Scott. He is also predeceased by his sons Gary C. Scott, Eric and twin girls. His parents Joe Mandamin Sr. and Matilda Mandamin, his sisters Doris Mandamin, Josephine Wesley, and Christine Mandamin.

Joe grew up in Wabaseemoong where he attended school and enjoyed playing hockey and baseball in the community. Joe and Jessie spent many happy years together where they raised their two sons until her passing. He then met Jane and they made a beautiful life together as well.

Joe worked with Hydro and MNR as a manual labor in his younger years but his main love was working seasonally with the local tourist camps around the community for over 50 years.  KCR was one of his last guiding jobs which he really enjoyed working for and working with those at the camp. He also worked with the Home Support Program in Whitedog for many years until his retirement.

Joe liked spent his free time watching various sports programs and watched TV; he enjoyed going for rides alone or with his brother Ronnie. He had a passion for many things; such as the outdoors, living off the land, hunting, he loved to fish and entered local fishing tournaments. He was known for his sense of humor and good teasing nature that was only surpassed by his smile that would light up a room. He was loved by those around him and aimed to make people feel welcome and comfortable while being in his presences yet, he was quiet and shy man. He also enjpyed going out and about attending events in the community.

Wake Service will be held on Wednesday, December 21 at the Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School beginning at 3:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December, 23 at 11:00 am at Mizhakiiwetung Memorial gymnasium with Ron Indian-Mandamin officiating with interment to follow. 

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Treaty Three Police Service Constable’s Shane Procter and Mackenzie Smith, Ronnie Mandamin Sr., Audrey Mandamin and paramedics for their quick response and care for our loved one. Meegwetch
