With her family by her side, Cheryl Favreau (Sundin) a resident of Laclu Ontario passed away on December 19th, 2022, at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, at the age of 76.
She is lovingly remembered by Harry, her devoted husband of 58 years, children Colleen and husband Darryl, Derek and wife Kerri, and Mark and wife Aimee. Her legacy will live on in her grandchildren Steven and Jillian Paterick, Matthew, Kirsten, and Monika Favreau, and Sarah, Elizabeth and Ben Favreau. Her memory is treasured by her siblings Audrey Larson, Sheila (Ray) Howard, Larry (Crystal) Sundin and sister-in-law Judy Sundin. Cheryl will also be remembered by her extended Favreau family including Delores Leroux, Judy Smith, Terry Favreau, Margo (Randy) Cederwall, Michael (Nancy) Favreau, Barbara Favreau, and Trudy Favreau. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and all the people whose lives she touched. She is predeceased by her parents Alfred and Lempi Sundin, her mother and father-in-law Lorne and Iris Favreau, brother Mervin Sundin and in-laws Lorne Larson, Paul Leroux, Brian Smith, Lorna and Fred Sinclair, Janice Favreau, Donald Favreau and Gary Russell.
Cheryl was born in Kenora Ontario and grew up on her farm in Laclu. She married the love of her life, Harry, on February 8, 1964. Together they spent many happy years on Station Hill raising their three children before moving back out to the Lalcu homestead in October 1991. Starting in the 1970s, she worked at Woolworth’s, Robinson’s and the Bargain Shop. She loved meeting the numerous people who came her way and would always take the time to chat and ask how people were. She took an active interest in the lives of all those whom she met. Family was very important to Cheryl and many wonderful memories were made camping, having family barbeques, travelling with the Laclu Folkdancers, and spending time with her grandchildren. Cheryl felt most at home out in the country and enjoyed being surrounded by nature. She loved animals and often shared stories of the birds and deer that came to visit her. Her favourite time of year was the Christmas season, and she took so much joy in sharing many cultural traditions with her family through her decorating, food, the annual bonfire and her whimsical touch. Faith was important to Cheryl, and she was a long time member of St. Louis Parish in Keewatin and the Catholic Women’s League. Her faith was a comfort to both her and her family as she journeyed towards her rest.
A Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Friday December 30th, 2022, at St. Louis Church in Keewatin with a luncheon to follow. Prayers for Cheryl will be held at the church the evening before on Thursday, December 29th, 2022 at 7:00pm. A private family interment will take place after the service.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many doctors and nurses at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Dr. Shannon Wiebe, Dr. Joel Kroeker, the nurses and staff on the third floor of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, and the family and friends who offered their prayers and support.
