A house under construction suffered moderate damage but no injuries were reported after a fire Tuesday evening.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called just after 7 p.m. to reports of a fire in a single-storey house in the 5700 block of Roblin Boulevard.
The City of Winnipeg says in a release that when crews arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked from the outside until it was safe enough to enter the house.
The fire was declared under control at 7:59 p.m.
Firefighters searched the house to ensure there was no one inside.
The City says that the cause of the fire is accidental, related to temporary heating in the building while it was under construction. The house sustained moderate damages from smoke and fire.
Drivers and pedestrians should use caution in the area as water used the fight the fire has now frozen on the roadways causing slippery conditions. The City is monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways as required to improve traction.
