Tonight brings a perfect opportunity for creative personalities from all over to show off their talents in Portage la Prairie.
From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, the Whoop and Hollar Folk Festival will bring back their Open Mic and Jam Night.
This will be the first Open Mic and Jam Night in person since 2019, a genuine thrill for Whoop and Hollar Coordinator Linda Omichinski.
"The point is, it's an opportunity for Portagers or others outside Portage to come, ham it up and express their talent. Whether it's a song, dance, comedy, literature, or spoken word, anything goes. So, they'll get 10 to 15 minutes depending on how many participants sign up."
This will be the first session in a series of four, as February, March and April will see more Open Mic and Jam nights.
Omichinski says that this session is a unique offering that she doesn't believe is held anywhere else in Manitoba.
"Usually, you have an open mic only or a jam only, but you've got an open mic, you've got a concert, and you've got a jam."
She notes that the event is free by donation, which will go back to helping Whoop and Hollar keep doing its thing.
"We love music and dance, and it's an opportunity for people to come together, especially during a colder season and let loose."
