Audrey “Gail” McRoberts
(Nee Sanna)
Born September 29th, 1936
Passed January 12th, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and matriarch of the family Gail McRoberts. Lovingly referred to as Duct Tape Molly by her family for her knack of repairing whatever needed to get fixed at the fish camp with good chunk of duct tape and a giggle, she will always be lovingly remembered for playing such a huge part in our lives.
Gail grew up on Shoal Lake as a youth and when her Mom and Dad bought their own commercial fishing licence she rolled up her sleeves for a lifetime of hard work. The family worked together to set up Sanna Fisheries located on Fog Island on Lake of the Woods and was soon joined by her husband Murray. They took pride in supplying local restaurants with the freshest and best fish possible while Murray worked full time as a grader operator. And despite a short stint as a telephone operator at the telephone exchange and a few years with the wonderful Ratuski family at Shoal Lake Wild Rice plant (where she met many lifelong friends), her focus was on family and on the lake. She was also very proud of her Metis heritage and strong faith in the Lord.
With a full heart she loved her three children, daughter Judy (Wayne) Beckworth, son Scott (Michelle) McRoberts and daughter Charlene (Shaun) Clifford and all her grandchildren Deanna and Steven Beckworth, Murray and Melissa McRoberts, Charlie and Joshua Clifford and many great grandchildren. Mom’s patience and ability to keep kids entertained was legendary and the bond she has with her grandkids will never be forgotten.
Mom was predeceased by her soulmate of 58 years in 2017 and Mom missed him every day. She will be celebrating being back in his loving embrace as they load up the boat for another adventure together.
Thank you to the caring staff at Wiigwas Elder & Senior Caree, and thank you to moms’ friends that visited mom during her stay there, your visits meant a lot to her and us. If possible, because of mom’s love of dogs, we would appreciate in lieu of flowers a small donation to It’s a Dog’s Life. The family is going to have a private gathering as per mom’s wishes and would like to thank everyone for their kind words and love during this trying time.
If Roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
