Our grandmother Nancy Cherry lived a long blessed life, she was 98 years old. I’ll always remember her beautiful soul, the kindness she shared with everyone she met, her contagious laughter, her humor, and the love she had for all that were in her presence. She had the biggest heart, and we will always carry her teachings and wisdom she shared with us and the history of the community, she was very wise and a very strong independent woman. I’m forever grateful the Creator gave us a beautiful Kookum/Mom who raised us in the best way she could. I miss you so much Kokum, but I know you’re at peace with your children and husband.
She was predeceased by her husband Theodore Cherry, parents Tom and Ester Half, her children Josephine, Lillian, Stanley, Charles, Albert and her twins. She is also predeceased by her grandchildren Jimmy Halfe, Natalie Cherry and great grandchild Cheyenne Scott.
Left to mourn are son Alex Halfe, grandchildren Arvel Cherry (Justin), Jason Cherry (Lynn), Derek Cherry (Jeanette), Ryan Cherry (Andrea), Richard Cherry (Dolores), Una Cherry (Barrie), great grandchildren, Brook Cherry, Ivan Cherry, Austin Ledoux, Josephine Cherry, Jimmy Jr. Halfe, Jamie Halfe, Jimmy Scott, Taylor Halfe, Lakota Scott, Tristan Scott, Destiny Scott, Lyndon Paypom-Cherry, Mason Cherry, Mya Cherry, Caden Cherry, Leland Cherry, Bentley Cherry, Harmony Cherry, Lincoln Cherry, Kinston Cherry, Riley Cherry, Lilliana Cherry, Leila Cherry, Ozhawgogiizhik (Marcus), Wabamangin (Acesen) Terence Cherry, Kynsey Bluebird, Akacia Bluebird and Hazey Bluebird. As well as many relatives form Northwest Angle, Whitefish Bay, Sabaskong and Goodfish Lake, Alberta.
Nancy was a bold woman who had mainly lived off the land and grew up in traditional medicines. She had contributed by helping others who had illnesses and addictions and took care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She's an aunty to many others. She had a good sense of humour. She often kept her household clean and tidy; loved the outdoors like picking blueberries, wild rice and setting up fishing nets. She loved her favorite movie Sister Act. She also had numerous friends too numerous.
You’ll be love and missed by so many people, I love you infinite Kookum, until we meet again.
Wake will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Washagamis Bay Band Office. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 beginning at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Washagamis Bay First Nation Cemetery.
