The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings looked to complete the sweep of their home-and-home series with the Melville Millionaires in Melville Saturday night. The Wings would take an early lead, but found themselves falling behind early in the second period.

The Wings would persist, however, and picked up a 5-4 win in overtime on the strength of a pair of goals, including the game-winner, from Ryley Morgan, and the first goals of the season from Blake Norris and Blake Betson.

Melville opened the scoring 6:16 into the game when Colby Ball scored his seventh of the season. Then, Weyburn answered back.

Norris would find the twine behind Ethan Rau with 10:07 to play in the first period. Norris’ first of the campaign would be assisted by Matthew Reidy and Max Monette. Then, Morgan gave the Wings the lead with just over three minutes left in the period. The assists on his 16th of the year were credited to Jackson Hassman and Ty Mason.

The Millionaires would score the lone goal of the second period, with Carter McKay finding the net behind Dazza Mitchell. The power-play goal at the 9:06 mark would even the game up 2-2.

It would take less than a minute in the third period for the Millionaires to regain the lead, with Jaxon Martens scoring just 52 seconds into the frame. Then, Felix Beauchemin scored just under two minutes later to make it a 4-2 game, putting the Red Wings under pressure to find ways to score with 17 minutes left in regulation.

Weyburn would find ways to score, with Betson notching his first as a Red Wing at the 7:18 mark. Elijah Anderson and Max Monette had the assists on the goal. Then, Monette would score a goal of his own, giving him three points on the night, exactly three minutes later. Reidy and Lucas Jeffreys had the helpers on the goal.

With the game knotted up 4-4, overtime would be needed. In the 3-on-3 period, Morgan would score his second of the game with 31 seconds left to play. His 17th of the year, assisted by Reidy, would give the Wings the 5-4 victory.

With the win, the Wings improved to 16-20-0-1 on the season. Their 33 points have them in the 8th and final playoff spot, heading into a crucial seven-game homestand. It will start with the last place Kindersley Klippers coming to town Tuesday night. Then, Friday night the Wings take on the Melfort Mustangs, and it gets followed up by another game against the Klippers Saturday.
