The need for volunteers continues.

The Voyageur Lions Club is one organization recruiting new members.

Long-time member Bill Michl says Lions clubs have helped area communities grow.

“There’s proof out there that all these small communities that have Lions Clubs seem to be better. They have things that are community-minded playgrounds. They have health at their hospitals, they have help with the elderly, they make an impact on the community, and the community seems to be better for it,” says Michl.

The Club has been instrumental in several projects.

A lot of attention has been on the area’s healthcare needs.

“We do a lot of work with Diabetes Canada, things with sight, things with hearing, we’ve always been involved with. Now we get into childhood cancer, and we also fund the ophthalmology wing at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg.”
