The 2023 edition of the McLeod Series won’t be taking place this year. The move was announced by Weyburn Comprehensive School on social media.

The decision to take a break from the series this year was due to high emotions, as well as threatening and harassing behaviour directed towards players and coaches, during the games and after the games.

In the written release, WCS stated they “hope that this series break will support all participants in being active and positive spectators at future school series events.”

The McLeod series started in 1932 and has had a few breaks over the years – most recently in 2021 due to COVID-19. There have also been pauses for reasons similar to the decision this year.

The series is a four-game total point series between the senior basketball teams from Weyburn Comprehensive School and Estevan Comprehensive School.
