This week’s Thursday Thunder player is Dylan Westlake; presented by Save on Foods.
Westlake is an Assistant Captain and wears number 8 on the Airdrie Techmation Thunder team.
Westlake broke his collarbone early in October last year and has been sitting out of games since. This injury kept Westlake out of the games for three and a half months but did not stop Westlake from returning.
On January 27 Westlake got back onto the ice and scored two goals. The final score of the game was 2-4 with the Techmation Thunder winning against the Three Hills Thrashers.
Westlake says that despite a few bumps in the road the Thunder has been doing good this season.
“I think we're peaking at the right time before playoffs. We've had a couple of bumps in the road. But I think that it's always good to have some adversity throughout the season. I think we're in a good position going into playoffs here to make a run.”
The Thunder’s general manager Shaun Guest said that Westlake’s leadership is great on and off the ice.
“Our Save On Foods Airdrie Techmation Thunder player of the week is Assistant Captain Dylan Westlake, who has been out with a broken collar bone since playing Okotoks on October 7th. Dylan had two goals in his first game back Friday night against Three Hills and has proven this weekend, that his leadership is clutch on and off the ice”
Westlake has been with the Thunder for the last two seasons and has one more year that he’s eligible to play with the team.
When not on the ice, Westlake attends the University of Calgary for a degree in finance.
With the Thunder he has 2 goals this season and 1 assist for a total of three points. In his first season, Westlake got 12 goals and 14 assists; this brings his two-season total to 29 points.
