Work on improvements to Baldur’s Memorial Hall should be done by mid to late February.

The aging hall was in need of some improvements and the local municipality applied for grants and did some fund raising to make the project a reality.

Colleen VanWynsberghe is the recreation director for the RM of Argyle and helped organize the renovation project. “We’re currently redoing our kitchen. We've dismantled the kitchen and have purchased new kitchen counters, cupboards and flooring and it’s going to look fantastic.”

Van Wynsberghe says the old kitchen was all plywood and to pass safety and public health the upgrade was necessary. Work is expected to be completed sometime over the next two weeks.

“We're just waiting for some plumbing to be finished up and the three sinks to be added in and then we’ll do a clean-up and we should have everything ready over the next few weeks,” said VanWynsberghe.

Local officials hope the Memorial Hall is used even more because of the upgrade. Coming out of the pandemic more groups are expected to make use of the hall. “We have a beautiful Grand Piano on our stage, we have festival, arts, wedding events, senior's suppers and arts and crafts program that take place at the hall.”

The project’s total cost is expected to reach close to $60,000 and officials says they came in on budget.

“We applied for and received a lot of grants. We had support from the Community Co-op here in town as well as Sunrise Credit Union. We had a lot of generous support from a number of community members as well.”

Another part of the upgrade was replacing the nursery school flooring.
