He also had a special lifelong friendship with cousin Kelly Popko.
He was predeceased by his father and mother Allen and Beatrice Hannah, sister Roberta Nadon and niece Twila Nadon.
Wally was born on Feb. 25th, 1967 on a very stormy day in Portage la Prairie, MB., but during his childhood lived throughout Manitoba in many small towns including Polar Point, Riverton, and Baldur.
After attending high school in Portage, he met and married Sharon and was blessed with his son Caleb who he adored and was proud of every day. In fact, after Caleb graduated in Winnipeg, Wally was excited to have Caleb move back to Portage to live with him, remaining with him up until his passing. Caleb really made an impact on Wally's life during this time, as they spent a lot of time together driving around town getting coffee, slurpees, burgers or meeting up with friends.
Throughout his working life, Wally preferred to work outdoors and was most interested in driving machinery while working for Southport Aerospace, City of Portage and Brandon, Humiski Trucking, Meseyton Construction, Delta Home Furnishings, and most recently Portage Lawn Services and Miller's Campground.
In his free time, Wally enjoyed a gooooood cup of coffee and Tim Hortons was his first choice (and many would think was his second home). If you were looking for Wally, chances were, the first place you looked was outside Tim Hortons in downtown P. la P. where he met up with numerous friends from the BSers’ club.
Some of Wally’s interests included playing his guitars, gaming, camping, bonfires and spending time with his family. There wasn’t a year gone by that he wasn’t there to spend his shared birthday with his twin brother Wes where they often reminisced about how they changed over the years or who had the greyest hair. Their most memorable birthday was their 50th at the Army and Navy. Arlene was his baby sister who was often there to be sure he got a good meal and a helping of her famous bannock. His other family was his big circle of friends. He had many great friendships over the years with some of his closest friends being Pete Thompson, Dave Piontkowski and of course Kelly Popko.
Wally, you are gone, but will never be forgotten.
A celebration of life will take place on Friday, February 10th at 1:00 pm at the Portage Evangelical Church, 72 3rd St NE, Portage la Prairie, MB. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Garden, Portage la Prairie, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wally’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, or Diabetes Canada. To leave messages of condolence, please visit www.ronaldmoffitmemorialservices.com
