According to a social media post by the city's Fire Chief, fire crews responded to a balcony  at the 400 Block of Mackenzie Way (Building 9000).

According to Chief Pirie, there were multiple reports of a fire on the third floor.

"When the Engine from Veterans Station arrived there was a fire on a 3rd-floor balcony and the sprinkler system was activated," he stated.

Fire crews were able to quickly confirm the fire was under control and worked to shut down the sprinklers.

The cause is under investigation and on Friday afternoon some fire crews remained on sight.

"The building is safe and directions to enter can be sought from firefighters on site."

Airdrie's Fire Department responded with 14 firefighters and brought a mutual aid Engine from the Crossfield Fire Department.

There were no reported injuries.
