The Municipality of WestLake-Gladstone is yet again referenced about the investigation first recommended last year by order of the Auditor General.
The Municipality first came to attention by way of its chief administration office coming under fire by "slanderous accusations" following a "cyber fraud" theft of about $450,000.
On September 6 of last year, Order in Council (343/2022) requested that Auditor General Tyson Shtykalo examine and audit of the operations and accounts of various municipalities under Section 16(1) of The Auditor General Act.
Based on the results of preliminary procedures, Shtykalo has determined he will examine allegations regarding the following four municipalities:
- Rural Municipality of WestLake-Gladstone
- Rural Municipality St. Andrews
- Rural Municipality West St. Paul
- Rural Municipality Swan Valley West
In addition to the allegations regarding these four municipalities, Shtykalo will examine municipal oversight at the Department of Municipal Relations and how the Department handles complaints regarding municipalities.
The Auditor General will not release any further information, including details of the allegations, until the examinations are complete and the public report is released.
The Auditor General is an officer of the Legislative Assembly mandated to provide independent assurance and advice to Members of the Legislative Assembly.
