A choir made up of singers from across Western Manitoba is going on a road trip later this month.

Konektis is a choir that has been performing in Western Manitoba for many years and, in 2023, the group will be heading for a special concert at Carnegie Hall. The trip to New York is for the concert called Canadians at Carnegie.

Konektis will be one of six choirs from Canada that will be taking to the stage, including two from Ontario and others from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, on April 1st.

“Konketis will be singing at a wonderful concert at Carnegie Hall, and we’ll be singing a wonderful repertoire with five other choirs from across Canada,” said Director Michelle Chyzyk.

“This is a really nice fit for us, and we really admire Carrie Tennant, the conductor of the Vancouver Youth Choir. We’ve worked with her before, so the idea of working with her and doing it at Carnegie Hall seemed like a perfect fit."

This will be the first time Konektis has performed at Carnegie Hall.

“It’s only the second trip we’ve taken as an ensemble. It’s difficult because we have adults coming from every walk of life and busy people. We have 35 out of our regular choir of 50 making the trip.”

Three of those members are from the Manitou area. They are Jackson and Lexi Hacult, and Sarah Sharpe.
