Dorothy Ann Zimmer
February 10, 1930 – April 6, 2023
Dorothy Ann (nee Hinz) Zimmer of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, SK, passed away at her residence on Thursday, April 6, 2023. She was 93 years of age. Dorothy, one of six children, was born to Joseph and Rose (nee Pape) Hinz in Humboldt. She was raised on the Hinz family farm south of Muenster, SK. Dorothy attended St. Francis Country School and furthered her education at St. Ursula’s Academy in Bruno. She then attained her Certified Nurses Assistant certificate in Saskatoon and worked at St. Paul’s Hospital and City Hospital in Saskatoon, and Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert. Dorothy married John Zimmer on June 20, 1950, in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church southeast of Muenster. They began their life together on a farm seven miles south of Muenster. Between 1954 and 1958 three children, a son and two daughters, were born to them. In 1955, the Zimmers moved to the Lintlaw area and farmed. Eventually, they moved to Humboldt and Dorothy was employed in the maternity department at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. In 1967, a final move was made to Lanigan where Dorothy worked at the Lanigan Hospital for 22 years until her retirement in 1989. She was involved in several organizations, including the CWL, the church choir, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Merry Mixers. Favorite leisure activities included reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing Scrabble, accompanying John when he went golfing, and she was known to be very competitive playing cards with her friends. As well, many hours were spent gardening and tending to her flowers, which she loved. For many years, she enjoyed camping at Fishing Lake with John and many grandchildren. They loved their grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely and were so proud of them. In their 72 years of marriage, Dorothy and John experienced both joys and trials; one thing which held their marriage together was their love and faith in each other. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of nearly 73 years, JOHN Zimmer of Lanigan; one son, two daughters, nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren: Brian (Mae nee Booth) Zimmer of Regina and family, Christopher (Lisa nee Boisclair) Zimmer of St. Paul, AB, and children Melody, CoraLee, Bryson, and Ethan, and Jennifer (Terry) Beausejour and children Ashton, Rylan, and Kyla, all of Whitecourt, AB; Gloria Pratchler of Lanigan and family, Lynn (David) Yaeger of Humboldt and children Christian, Anton, and Kathrine, Heather Pratchler of Lanigan and son Logan, and Russell Pratchler of Englefeld and children Jessica, Reilley, and Christina; and Juliann Leuschen of Airdrie, AB, and family, Crystal (Steve) Boone and children Jack and Nolan, Denise Leuschen (Amos Wiggins), and Erica Leuschen, all of Calgary, AB, and Ryan Leuschen and son Oscar of Airdrie, AB; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hinz and Marcella Hinz, both of Humboldt; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
