Agnes Korte
October 26, 1930 – April 7, 2023
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we say good-bye to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Agnes Anna Korte (nee Muggli) 92, of Humboldt and formerly of Muenster, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Humboldt District Hospital. Agnes was born on October 26, 1930 on the Muggli family farm, to Ernest and Anna (nee Muench) Muggli, being the second oldest in a family of 11 children. She grew up on the family farm in the Muenster area, attending Monastery School to Grade 8. Agnes helped her parents with housework, as well as farm work when needed. She later worked for various neighbors, performing domestic duties. She was soon courted by the young man who would eventually become her life partner. Agnes married Arnold Korte on July 2, 1952 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Muenster. They were blessed with a family of seven children – five daughters and two sons. Agnes tended large vegetable gardens, filling her cold storage room and deepfreeze with fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed their farm life, and helped Arnold as she was needed. Agnes worked very hard, raising the children, while maintaining a very busy household, which often included hired farm help. Agnes loved the beauty of flowers, and took pride in her colorful flower gardens. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and especially her famous buns and cinnamon buns. She sewed some of the children’s clothes, as well as tiny clothes for the girls’ dolls. At a young age, she learned how to crochet from her Mother; and in recent years, crocheted the cotton dishcloths we all loved and still use. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she appreciated her church community. She was an active member of the Christian Mothers’ League in Muenster for many years. She spent many hours cooking or serving for weddings at the Muenster Hall, and enjoyed the camaraderie with the ladies of the community that these frequent events provided. Sunday night bingo was a must. Agnes and Arnold enjoyed their vacations to Hawaii, Florida, and Las Vegas. Agnes was a very social person, and always looked forward to visiting with family and friends, playing cards or other games. As their family grew, she enjoyed each and every grandchild and great grandchild they were blessed with. She mourned the loss of her granddaughter, Nicole Puetz (January 31, 1988). In 2014, Agnes and Arnold moved to Humboldt where she lived until the present. Sadly, Arnold passed on June 1, 2018, just one month away from celebrating 66 years of marriage. She missed her life partner terribly these past five years, and there is comfort in knowing they are back together again. Agnes will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by their 7 children, 19 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
