Portage la Prairie RCMP officers have charged two individuals following a traffic stop in the city this past Sunday.

According to the police report, the incident happened on April 9th, at approximately 3:20 a.m., when the RCMP stopped a vehicle on 12th Street NW.

Officers say that they approached the vehicle, with four occupants inside, and spoke with the 33-year-old woman driver, who provided her identification.

Officers then observed open liquor in the vehicle while speaking with the other passengers.

The three other occupants were then requested to exit the vehicle, and upon opening the back door, police found additional alcohol and a large knife.

The four occupants were arrested, and a further search of the vehicle located illicit pills, loaded syringes, approximately $7500 in cash and other drug-related paraphernalia.

The two backseat passengers, a 27-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, were taken into police custody and later released for court scheduled July 11th in Portage la Prairie. They will face charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x2, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Possession of Proceeds of Crime.

The 33-year-old woman driver and 35-year-old woman front passenger were released without charge.

The Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
