Portage la Prairie RCMP reported two incidents of theft leading to arrests earlier this month.

The first case happened on April 3rd, at about 12:30 a.m., when Portage RCMP received an alarm call from a business in the 1200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West.

Officers say they attended the scene after they were informed that a group of kids had stolen several items in a store. Police then located the youths a short distance away.

A 12-year-old, two 13-year-olds and one 15-year-old, all girls, were arrested for Theft Under $5000.00.

The youths were all taken home. The RCMP continues to investigate.

The second incident occurred on April 6th, around12:30 p.m., as a Portage RCMP officer was making a foot patrol on Saskatchewan Avenue East and observed a woman hastily exiting a business carrying a package.

When the suspect saw the officer, she began to run around a corner of a building.

The police report states that the officer located her a short distance away and detained her for investigation.

The officer confirmed with the business that the suspect had taken an item worth over $100.00.

The suspect was formally arrested and faces charges of Theft Under $5000.00.

The woman was released to appear in court at a later date.
