Shae Fust, a Personal Trainer, and Kayla Core, a Yoga Instructor in Portage la Prairie, teamed up to use their powers to help the community's furry friends earlier this month.
Fust and Core came together to hold a shotgun raffle for a $1000 wellness package and an in-person event showcasing both of their certified skills.
On April 3rd, both women held an evening featuring a yoga and workout session at the William Glesby Centre while drawing the winner of their raffle.
Ultimately, the fundraiser collected $6700 for Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS.)
"Working together with the community, I think, just makes it that much more impactful," says Fust. "It feels great to do that sort of thing, and we're looking forward to doing more."
Fust adds that this wasn't the first time the two have combined for a fundraiser. In November 2022, they held a similar event which raised $4300, bringing their total between the two events to $11,000.
The Personal Trainer notes that the inspiration for doing something like this to better the community was drawn from Kayla and Shae's good friend Megan passing away.
Fust extends a major shout-out to the William Glesby Centre, which allowed the two women to use their facilities.
"To be a part of a community who is eager to get involved and do something good for not only themselves but for others, Portage is pretty special that way."
