The Winkler Horticultre Society, and city staff that support their work, were recently recognized at a provincial event.
Winkler picked up an Urban Beautification Award for communities with a population of over 7,500 during the Manitoba Good Roads Association annual banquet in Winnipeg..
Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens was on hand to accept the award on their behalf, and says it's something they take great pride in
"We are blessed in our community to have a dedicated group of people whose only desire is to make our community more beautiful," said Siemens. "And it's really nice that when we have an opportunity to go to an event like this and have that recognized province-wide, that this group of people has created a really beautiful community."
Siemens says it was an honour to be at the banquet to accept the award on behalf of the volunteers. He added the award is a really strong validation of the work the Horticulture Society does in our community.
The Winkler Horticulture Society spends countless hours over the winter months planning what they will be doing. Now with spring here, Siemens says we can all look forward to seeing the volunteers out again very soon.
"We (all) see how much passion and care they have for their community...It's a pleasure to see. We're very thankful for the work that they do. We couldn't in any way with staff, do that much work that these people give of their selves to be able to do for the community."
This is the third time Winkler has received the Beautification Award.
