Rhonda Catherine Barrault  (nee Fehr)

If you ever had the pleasure of meeting our mom, you met an angel right here on Earth. On Tuesday, May 2, 2023 Rhonda Barrault, loving wife, mother and grandmother, and quite possibly the kindest person on the planet, passed away at the age of 71 years.

Mom was born on May 17, 1951. In Gladstone MB. A little sister for Sheila and a youngest daughter for Len and Alice Fehr.  She was raised on the family farm where she had the best childhood.  On her first day of grade 7, her mother suddenly passed away and left her without a mom.  Mom’s incredible strength was born then.  In 1968 she met the greatest love of her life, our dad Daryl Barrault.  They had me, Alison, and Gerry and life was one big adventure.  Their adventures took them to Roblin where they bought and ran D and R Meat Processors.  In Roblin, they made good friends and kept very busy. David came along and the family of 5 was complete.  In 1988 they sold the business and moved to Portage la Prairie to be close to family.  The grandchildren started to arrive, and mom was in her glory.  If you knew mom, you know babies were her very favourite thing.  Mom’s best days were filled with waking up to Dad, her residents and crazy coworkers at MDC, her children, and grandchildren.  It was not uncommon for her to work all day, come home and prepare a roast beef supper, and invite the whole clan over to eat.  That was joy to her. All our friends were family too.  Everyone and anyone was welcomed.  Mom and Dad retired and spent their summers at Miller’s Campground.  They made the most wonderful, caring friends who became family to them.  The winter months for mom were filled with crocheting woollies for anyone and everyone, including her 9 grand-cats (she hated cats) and watching her favourite nomadic youtube family trek through mountains in Iran.

One month and one-half hour after we learned our beautiful mom had cancer, she passed away leaving those who love her broken hearted.  We were blessed to have her as ours.  She was the mother every child needs, and the Grandma every child deserves.  She loved our dad fiercely and taught us all how to love through thick and thin.

Left wishing for one more kiss, her adored husband Daryl, her children Alison, Gerry and David.  The children she didn’t give birth to but loved as her own, Darren Kerchak, Laurie Vey Barrault and Cherie Lake Barrault.  Her Grandchildren Jordan, Mandy, Reegan, Brettski, Parker, Kennedy, Casidy, Sam, Lennox, Chyna, Brady and Telyna. The great-grandbabies were her only regret, she wished for more time to watch them grow.  We will watch Kai, Alec, Aurora, Amaya, Bellamy Clementine, and any others we are blessed with, grow for her, and share our memories with them.  She will be deeply missed by her best friend and sister Sheila Bokor, and brother- in -law Louis. Mom was blessed with many nieces and nephews and was grateful for the special attention given to her by Andrea, Corrie, Karin, and Sammy.

She has worked our whole lives to prepare us to fly on our own.  Her loving wisdom will be passed along in the lessons we will share with generations to come.

She has promised she will be waiting at the gate for us. Until then Mom. Love you to the moon.

Rhonda’s Words of Wisdom

-Riches and success aren’t the goal.  Happiness is the goal.  Be happy.

-You’re not doing your kids any favour if you’re the only one who likes them

-If you’ve got yourself a headache, don’t hit yourself on the head with a hammer

-Happiness is a choice

-It hurts to be beautiful

-Grape jelly is always spread with the back of a spoon

-You can’t always get what you want (sung of course)

-The sun will rise tomorrow

As per mom’s wishes, a private family service will take place at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8, or do something kind and unexpected for someone who needs it.
