An Estevan woman has died following a motorcycle crash south of the Canada-US border and the man she was on the bike with suffered serious injuries, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The crash involved the motorcycle and a pick-up truck, about six miles (or 10 kilometres) east of Fortuna, N.D. around 4:18 p.m. on May 28.
The police report is as follows:
"The Ford F150 was traveling south on Divide County Road 2. The Motorcycle was traveling east on Hwy 5. The F150 failed to yield to the Motorcycle. The F150 struck the Motorcycle. The driver of the Ford was not injured in the crash. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were thrown from the motorcycle. Both the driver and passenger sustained serious injuries. They were transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s in Crosby. They were transferred to Trinity Health in Minot. The female passenger succumbed to her injuries sustained in the crash.
"The crash remains under the investigation of the North Dakota Highway Patrol."
Charges are pending against a 25-year-old man from Williston who was driving the 2022 truck.
The report did not name any of the people involved. It said the man and woman on the bike were 42 and 43 years old, respectively. Both were wearing helmets.
Road conditions were described as good and dry, and the sky was cloudy. The driver of the truck was wearing a seatbelt.
