Melvin Hafner
February 22, 1942 – May 27, 2023
It is with deep sadness that the Hafner family announces the peaceful passing of Melvin Bernard Hafner, 81 years, of Bethany Pioneer Village on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Melvin was born on February 22, 1942, at Bruno, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 4 children to John and Annie (nee Streitenberger) Hafner. Melvin obtained all his education at the Thiel Krentz School in the Bruno district. The family lived on a farm north of Bruno until the family moved into the town of Bruno in 1957. Melvin had a variety of jobs throughout his life. He had his own trucking company. He also would work for a company out of Humboldt delivering milk and cream to the Carmel, Bruno, and Humboldt areas. In 1974, he moved to Saskatoon and started working as a security guard at the post office and on building sites. Melvin had an entrepreneurial spirit and wasn’t afraid to take risks. He owned many rental properties. Melvin was known as a collector of all things, and he loved a good garage sale. He especially loved to partake in an all-weekend card game. Melvin liked spending time alone and was private about his life. He enjoyed his family and spent quality time with his nephew Ryan and his family. He always appreciated the visits he received while living in Bethany.
Melvin will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Ryan (Laurie) Hafner of Peterson and family Alesia (Corby) Marchant and their children Iophiel, Ephraim, and Phalon of Peterson, and Nathan (Shay-Lynn) Hafner of Earl Grey and son Luther; Lisa Bruesch of Muenster; Sarah (Murray) Veitenheimer of Rosetown; Darlene (Colin) Ford of Humboldt; Bruce (Shirley) Hafner of Prince Albert; sister-in-law Carol Hafner of Humboldt; and many good friends. Melvin was predeceased by his parents John and Annie Hafner, his two brothers Clarence Hafner, Donald Hafner, sister-in-law Fay Schwark, and a sister in infancy.
As per Melvin’s wishes, no services will be held. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Cemetery, Peterson, SK. Memorial donations in Melvin’s memory may be directed to Bethany Pioneer Village or Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.
