It was a chaotic scene at Fort Gibraltar Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., seventeen students and one teacher from St. John's-Ravenscourt fell from a structure inside Whittier Park.

Three children were transported to hospital in unstable condition. The others arrived in stable condition.

Shared Health says a Code Orange was declared at Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre shortly thereafter.

HSC Children’s Emergency Department received 17 children with various injuries, while one adult was taken to the Adult Emergency Department in stable condition.

Shared Health says discharges have begun and they anticipate that most will go home throughout the day.

It's believed the children were on a school outing when they fell 15-20 feet.

"This was a serious incident and we appreciate the contributions of staff involved in the care of the patients and their families," said Shared Health in a press release. "This includes the paramedics at the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service who were first on the scene, our physicians, nurses and support staff in the children’s emergency department, our patient relations, and our child life, social work, and spiritual health teams who provided support to the children and their families."

One child is expected to stay overnight in the hospital.

None of the injuries are life-threatening.
