It may be the start of June, but it will be feeling like mid-July this weekend with hot and humid weather settling in for the next few days. A Heat Warning is in effect for much of Southern Manitoba, with muggy conditions being the theme today through Sunday.
"Upper level ridging over the eastern Prairies, along with a southerly flow pumping moisture rich air into the region from the southern U.S., has set up what’s to come," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "Highs in the low 30s, and it feeling like the upper 30s with the humidity factored in, is what we can expect."

Sumner noted, with all that heat and moisture in the atmosphere, there certainly will be the fuel necessary for thunderstorm development.
"The issue is we don’t really have a trigger to get them started," he added. "With that said, localized instability could lead to pop-up storms later today through Sunday night, and any that do develop would have the potential to be strong to severe. Overall, though, the chance for widespread storms is quite low."
According to Sumner, at this point, we're expecting temperatures to cool to seasonal Tuesday after a cold front moves through Monday.
"It’s that cold front which will give us the best chance for rainfall Monday afternoon and evening," he said. "The forecast models are showing a discrepancy whether seasonal conditions will linger mid next week, or if we’ll see a return to well above average temperatures, but generally speaking the early guidance is for seasonal to warmer than usual conditions for most of next week."
Averages for the start of June are 23 for a daytime high and 10 for an overnight low.
