This Saturday marks the return of St. Gregor’s Shake, Rattle and Roll Bike Rally. The fundraiser sees proceeds going toward Parkinson’s Disease research. More than a bike rally, it’s a summertime celebration for the community that’s making a comeback after a few years hiatus.
Fernando Gaspar is one of the organizers and volunteers for the event. He takes us back to the origins of the event.
“We have a few people with Parkinson’s Disease in the area, and we wanted to support the issue,” Gaspar explains. He notes that this year’s funds are bound for Friends of Vido for Parkinson’s Disease Research at the University of Saskatchewan.
On June 17, the day kicks off at St. Gregor Community Hall with a pancake breakfast from 9:00 – 10:30 am. The breakfast is offered by donation as the bikers roll in for event registration. The main drag in St. Gregor will host a show and shine with cars, tractors, trucks, and of course motorbikes, all eligible for show prizes.
At noon, a parade will run through the community, and anyone can join with any method of movement. That’s followed by the ride for those bikers who choose to register.
“It’s about a 250 kilometre route that riders can use at their discretion,” says Gaspar. “It goes through Wadena, down to Elfros, back to Dafoe, and circles back to St. Gregor.”
Concessions and social time go on all day at the Community Hall. The 50/50 draw and silent auction winners will be announced at 3:00 pm.
“We’d love to see everybody come on out to support Parkinson’s Disease research.”
