The Market Square in Swift Current was full of life yesterday, as hot dogs were served to hundreds of patrons for charity.
“(Living Sky Casino) is so organized,” stated Eunice Morck, the treasurer of the Silver Wings Access Van Inc. (SWAVI). “They said that they would set up everything, do everything, buy everything, and we would just get to accept the money, and that's exactly what they did.”
Living Sky Casino held the community barbecue to raise money for an accessibility van to be used by The Meadows long-term care facility. Over 20 volunteers with both Living Sky Casino and the SWAVI committee put on the event.
Morck attended the event, and also helped with the order delivery. “The place was really buzzing. There were a lot of people there… supporting a good cause.”
With an estimate of 250 to 300 supporters at the event, as well as around 70 orders going out, the hotdogs, chips and pop have certainly brought in proceeds for the cause.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 183 also made a generous $500 donation. This was just one of many events to be held for the purchase of the accessibility van.
