Some history is being restored in the town of Gull Lake in the near future.

Elks Hall has a rich past, from being home to the Elks Club and the Royal Purple, to holding a countless number of community events, and connecting residents in the core of the town.

Lindsay Alliban, economic development officer for Gull Lake, said the building was just recently turned back to the Town.

“So, they've been working toward fixing it up to make sure it's a sustainable and efficient building into the future in downtown Gull Lake,” she said. “Recently they've done some roof repairs, but there's interior work that needs to be done to bring it back to life and clean it up a little bit as it is quite an old building.”

Plans for both revitalizing the building and fundraising to do so are still in the early stages; nothing is set in stone as of yet.

However, volunteers are coming together to brainstorm ideas and the Town is hoping to form a planning committee to help things progress.

“A lot of people think that that is a good option to just knock it down and rebuild something new, but the building does have a lot of good history,” Alliban added. “We really want to reimagine the typical hall space into something that will suit the community better and remain as a place that they can use for the same activities they've been using it for, for many years.”

The big kickoff for future planning and work is happening on Wednesday with a steak dinner. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Gull Lake Town office.
