Monday, June 19th is election day in the Portage-Lisgar by-election. Eligible voters will have the chance to cast their ballot for one of five candidates vying to be the region's Member of Parliament. Below you can find details regarding Monday's election, and links to further resources to help you place your vote.
Why is there a by-election?
The by-election was prompted when former Portage-Lisgar M.P. Candice Bergen resigned her seat earlier this year. The by-election was announced Sunday, May 14th, with Monday, June 19th set as election day.
Who is running?
There are five candidates running in the by-election. They are listed below in order as they appear on the Elections Canada website list of confirmed candidates:
Max Bernier - People's Party of Canada
Nicolas Geddert - Green Party of Canada
Branden Leslie - Conservative Party of Canada
Kerry Smith - Liberal Party of Canada
Lisa Tessier-Burch - New Democratic Party

Where and when can I vote?
To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen, and at least 18 years old on election day. Polls are open on election day, (June 19th) from 830am to 830pm, and you can cast your ballot at your assigned polling station. You can find your designated polling station online by entering your postal code.
Do I have to be a registered elector ahead of time?
Electors who have not registered may register at their assigned polling station just before they vote on election day. For faster service at the polls, they can enter their information online and print a pre-filled registration certificate that they can bring and sign when they go to vote.
Do I need to bring ID in order to vote?
Yes, you do need to prove your identity and address, and you have three options to pick from. You can find the details on each option, by clicking here.
Where and when can I find out the results of the by-election?
The polls close at 8:30pm Monday, June 19th, and vote counting will begin after that. Beginning at 8:30pm, CFAM Radio 950, Country88 and Eagle 93.5 will be airing updates every 30 minutes through 11pm. You will also be able to find election results here (link will activate after polls have closed)
