Kurt Douglas
With sadness we announce the passing of Kurt Douglas on June 13, 2023, at the age of 62 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Geneviève Doré of Portage la Prairie, in-laws Denise Chammartin and Nestor Bodnarchuk of Winnipeg, best friend Terry Zablotsky of Montreal, Quebec, great friend Lori McFarland of Portage la Prairie.
Kurt was bon on November 15, 1960, in Montreal, Quebec. He spent his youth in Montreal before moving to Winnipeg where he received his Commercial Cooking Certificate from Tec Voc. After graduation he became a sous chef, then the executive chef for the Norwood Hotel, where he met his wife Geneviève. They were married August 9th, 2002. Both Kurt and Geneviève shared a passion for food and hosting dinner parties for friends and family.
In 2007 Kurt got the job of executive chef at the Canad Inns in Portage la Prairie and moved there with his wife. Kurt loved that Lake Manitoba was so close by, where he could indulge in his favourite activities; fishing, camping, and taking his dog Buddy swimming. Kurt loved to play cards with friends and being around a good campfire.
Kurt was a gentle giant of a man with an infectious laugh. Many who worked with him in the cooking industry would remark that he was a calming influence in any kitchen he worked in.
He was patient and kind to all. He will be forever missed and never forgotten.
A celebration of Kurt’s life will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 2:00pm.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to PAWS, Portage Animal Welfare Society Inc., 121 – 12th St. N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2.
