Laverne Joseph Ilg, 81 years, of the Pilger district passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 16, 2023. Laverne was born at home on the family farm in the Wilmont district on June 27, 1941 to John and Leona (nee Flory) Ilg. He attended the local country school – Sterns – and completed Grade 8 at which time he began working with his dad doing carpentry work. Laverne later obtained his GED and then went to Saskatoon where he took a Mechanics course and achieved his Journeyman’s papers. On June 11, 1966, he married Belinda Renneberg and they had just celebrated their 57th anniversary. They bought his parents farm and began farming, raising hogs, farrow to finish. Laverne also kept busy doing mechanic work in his shop on the farm. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening. Laverne had a passion for restoring old tractors. He purchased a lathe and took up knife making, also sewing the leather cases for them. Many family were fortunate to be gifted one of his knives. He enjoyed visiting and socializing with his neighbors and friends whenever he got the chance. Laverne had his two furry buddies, Cooper and Mo and they went everywhere with him. He loved becoming a grandpa and spending time with his grandkids. Laverne will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Belinda Ilg of Pilger; two children and seven grandchildren: John (Jennine) Ilg and family Kaleb, Hailey, Conner and Rylee, all of Saskatoon; and Amanda Ilg (Mike Topp) and family Jaxson, Talia, all of Saskatoon and Lexie of Edmonton; sisters Angeline Wourms of Moose Jaw and Sherri (Lynn) Stebbings of Humboldt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
