A GoFundMe has been created to help a family near Cabri after their house was devastated by a fire last week.

Late last week Terry and Brian Bonogofski launched the online fundraiser to help aid the Undseth family of five.

The two families have been neighbours for nearly a decade with the friendship feeling more like extended family nowadays.

"We've known him [Ken] since he was in high school," Terry said. "We've become very close to each other since we moved here.

"They're the first ones to help when you're in need. We're a really tight knit community."

Since the GoFundMe commenced on Friday, over $7,000 has been raised from over 35 donors.

"It's nice that people are giving back to them after they've given to so many," she said.

Keaton Downdeswell, the Fire Chief for the RM of Riverside Fire Department, said the blaze caused extensive damage to the living room and kitchen area and the ceiling. The remainder of the house sustained heavy water damage.

"There are many costs that are incurred when you first have a fire," she said. "You have to buy everything. Their kids have no clothes, nothing. So they have to purchase those items and this was just to help them get started again."

Bonogofski said they first found out about the fire when they received a phone call from the Undseth's oldest daughter. However, they were in Swift Current at the time.

"We have a fire fighting unit at our house but the pump was down," she said. "She phoned to see if we were around to come to help them.

"When we got here, the house was totally engulfed."

A trust has been set up at the Innovation Credit Union for Undseth's.
