Environment Canada is calling for a hot and dry Canada Day in southern Manitoba. In fact, Samantha Mauti says that should be the flavour of the next couple of days.

The normal high for this time of year is 25 degrees. Highs between 30 and 32 degrees are expected today and Sunday.

Mauti says with those temperatures there is a chance that Environment Canada could issue a heat warning. For that to happen, she says it usually takes a daytime high of at least 32 degrees with an overnight low of at least 16 degrees. A humidex of 38 degrees can also prompt a warning.

But Mauti says the weather pattern could change on Sunday. She notes a cold front could swing through southern Manitoba late Sunday bringing the possibility of showers and thundershowers. This will also result in cooler weather on Monday, with a high of 26 degrees, which would still be warmer than normal.

Mauti says it is difficult to predict precipitation totals for Sunday and Monday because there could be locally higher amounts in an area with a thunderstorm.
